Fender Rumble Club

Hello all,

I got a used Rumble 100 a few days ago. when I turned on the amp and played around 5 minutes, something sparked inside the amp and I smell something burning inside it.
So, I need a repair and I think power module has a problem. Indeed, the other parts (knobs panel and plugs panel) looks good. So I ordered new power module from ebay ($45) and will change it. Do you think this is a good idea? Becuase the repair cost is at least $100 I believe, and the cost of the amp is $200.

If you are sure you have a matching module, I would try it, but then I'm a little adventurous, especially if it cost almost as much as what the amp is worth to fix it.:wacky: Is there any visible burns or damage on the old module? Also I would want to know why the old one burnt out before I put the new one in.

Yes, that's the problem. I don't know why the amp was blow out. I guess that I may plugin on an outlet extension by IKEA, not directly plugin on a wall outlet.

And, just for visualization purposes, here's my flipped Rumble 500 combo (with a photoshopped grill) sandwiched between my Bassman 500 head and Bassman 115 cab. My 700w rig.

How wide is the Bassman 500? And at the legs?

Fender says the Bassman 500 head is 22.7 inches wide, which is just 5/16" less than the 23 inch side of the Rumble 500c it's sitting on in my photo.

I measure the legs, or rubber feet, of my Bassman 500 head to be 21-7/8", outside to outside. The 1-1/2" diameter feet, then, are 20-3/8" apart, center to center.

Hope this helps. (Yeah, when I was in elementary school, some 60 years ago, we were told "America will be going metric soon." Still waiting.)

Not metric, but there is a whole new measurement out there that is sort of a metric inch. Now, thanks to PCs and internet, you find measurements like 1.225"
That's just a fraction expressed in decimal form. Decimals are used almost exclusively in engineering.

Yeah, no.
It was Jimmy Carter who wanted to take us metric during his presidency.
That would have been mid to late 70's.

If you remember the 60's, you weren't really there. ;)

The resistance came from people who insisted that it was too hard.
When in fact, manipulating numbers within the metric system us much easier than what we use currently in the US.
Everything is scaled up or down in multiples of ten. 1 Kilometer is 1000 meters, 1 meter is 100 centimeters, 1 centimeter is 10 millimeters. The prefix ahead of meters tells you what factor of ten you need to multiply or divide.
And who can't multiply or divide by tens?

There is no easy converting, even within our system.
1 mile is 1760 yards or 5280 feet. 1 yard is 36 inches. 1 foot is 12 inches. It's a mess.

The problem comes when someone says 2.3 meters and you try to convert that to inches. It's real messy.
If we had just done this cold turkey, we'd be there by now, and it would all be much easier.

It's kind of like using decimals is easier than using fractions. You don't have to do any converting to work with decimals. Just add, subtract, multiply and divide the numbers that are there. Forget finding that common denominator business or doing the harder math of converting a fraction to a decimal so you can do the easier math to add the two.

But that's the great thing about the USA. We get exactly what we ask for. Even if it makes life more complicated. :thumbsup:
 
But don't you think that decimal inches are sort of going against the grain of the whole imperial thing?
Not at all, it's exactly the same number expressed differently. The mechanical world (machine tools) have been doing this for 100+ years.

All through school from the late 50s to college in the mid 70s I was always using a hodge-podge of imperial and metric 'cause "we're going mertric soon!"

For example, in 70s college engineering courses force was usually expressed in kilo-pounds, or kips for short, to keep the math simple and concentrate on the principles 'cause "we're going metric soon!"

In the 80s, as a refinery engineer, when calculators started getting cheaper, our piping designers got "The Jobber" calculator that took feet, inches and sixteenths and gave the answer the same way. They had to remember 4/16 =1/4 and 14/16=7/8 and draw it that way on paper pipe details. But, don't worry, 'cause "we're going metric soon!"

Just before I retired a few years ago I saw an engineering drawing using meters and centimeters. When I sarcastically asked if we had finally "gone metric" I was told no, that was an inadvertent example from a newly graduated CAD Designer who just hadn't setup his computer properly. That's the way he was taught in school. But, no, our pipe fabricators still used feet and inches. "Why? Are we supposed to go metric?", I was asked!!!
