^^^ I love snow, and especially the fall colors in the mountains. The deer; bear, and wild turkeys too. Camping and native trout fishing. Heaven on Earth.
My first experience with snow was at boot camp north of Chicago-shoveling it at 2 A.M. Kinda formed my opinion then and there.^^^

This ain't funny.
1980. Between wives. In an apartment. I had all of my electronics off the floor, but every one of my LPs was in a melon crate...on the floor. Storm came. Apartment complex flooded. Lost them all.
Priority #1 - Safety (myself and my dogs)

Priority #3 - Herbal meds (can't drink anymore)

Ike. 2008. No water, or power, in Houston, for 14 days...
I wasn't here for Alicia, but I know of some neighborhoods that were without water or power for a month! Yuck!
I knew some people who lived in south Miami in a new apt. They spent big $ for top-o-the-line roll down storm shutters. Hit a button and they roll into place. Andrew goes right over their house, no serious damage. Storm's past, time to open the shutters. Nope! No electricity. After Andrew ALL shutters had to have Manual override. They couldn't do anything for 2 weeks except leave doors open, letting in fresh air-and thirsty mosquitoes.

Gotta look out for those early design glitches.
Check out the square windows on the De Havilland (then BOAC) Comet. Several disintegrated in the air due to stress fractures. That's why we now have curved-corner windows.

I'm afraid my knowledge ends with the location. My college has several campuses and one was located on the base for personnel that were unable to attend at the other campuses.
