Fender Rumble Club

The advantage to using a three screw flat Fender badge, if you attach a Bassman amp badge, and in the future need to remove it, the flat badge covers the screw hole in the grill cloth.

Do you mean the blackface 3 screw badge? Not quite as flat, if that's what we're going for, as the 2 and 4 screw badges.

Yeah, mis worded that. I meant the flat badge two screw, and then use the Bassman three screw, then remove the Bassman badge, the two screw flat covers the screw hole in the grill cloth, left from using the three screw Bassman.

Hmmm, yeah, strange that the four-screw flat logo plate available everywhere, even on the Fender website, like this:

Is not the same two-screw one on the Fender Rumbles, like this:

Yeah, I noticed that. Also, the ivory radio knobs are available on the Fender website too, but only with the retaining screw on the side, as opposed to the push-fit version which are standard on the Fender Rumbles. Weird, especially as it seems some people are saying the yellow stickiness developing on the knobs is quite common problem on the older models.

it’s just dawned on me (I may be stupid, but at least I’m not good-looking!) that a few people on here have mentioned they’ve changed their original ivory-coloured, radio-style Fender Rumble amp knobs out for other preferred styles. So, if anyone is selling a set of the original ‘ivory’ knobs in good condition and/or a replacement Fender logo badge, I’d definitely be interested in hearing from them.

This is what the original ‘ivory’ knobs on my Rumble 500 combo look like. The photo doesn’t really do justice to how yellowed they really are, but the sticky residue is the biggest issue for me. Tried soapy water and cloth, but not much improvement. It’s almost like the change from their original appearance is in the knob material, Rather than simply on it.

Hi everyone, proud owner of Fender Rumble 100v3 that I absolutely love. I've used it live about 30 times last year with my Kala U-Bass and it's always sounded fantastic. It's also used for home practise for my electric basses.

My main electric rig is a MarkBass Little Mark 3 and an Epifani UL310. I use either a Fender AVRI75 Jazz or a Fender 70's FSR Precision and I play a mix of 50s and 60s rock and roll. Stuff like Buddy Holly, Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Little Richard, The Beach Boys etc. I love the tone of my electric basses through my Rumble and I'm seriously considering changing my Little Mark 3 head to the new Rumble 800HD head when it comes out.

The other head I was considering is the Ampeg Portaflex PF-800, partly because I've never owned an Ampeg before. However I'm concerned about some of the reliability issues I've read about them. I did 119 gigs last year so reliability is crucial for me and my Little Mark 3 and Rumble never let me down once.

Can anyone share any thoughts or experience of the Rumble amp heads verses the Ampeg Portaflex heads? Would I even be a fool moving to either of these heads from my MarkBass head? I just love the tone from my Rumble combo, its warm, punchy and rounded, just perfect.

I think you answered yourself.;)

Haha quite possibly, I'm just interested in if I'm missing something with the Ampeg heads having never owned one before.
I owned a mid 70's blue line SVT. It was 'OK'(?). Admittedly, I never got to really crank it, but I wasn't that impressed. For the money tied up in it-and the 810 cab-and the PITA moving it, :meh:.

Surely you have heard 'the ampeg sound' a gazillion times. Do you like it? What you're missing with the PF series is primarily reliability and believable wattage ratings. Plus only an all tube SVT actually sounds like an SVT. Never liked 'em.
Yeah. When I had mine, it was "the thing". My 1970 Kasino sounded as good if not better and was a helluva lot easier to move. 0608181235-00.jpg

Having owned the Ampeg PF500 and the SVT7 Pro, I don't think you are missing out on anything except headache and repair bills. I feel like the Rumble heads are of much better value/dependability, and have their own flavor...albeit different than an Ampeg. So unless you want to go full-on tube head, I can't see any reason to move to an Ampeg.
Now, at the risk of being lambasted for praising anything other than Fender in this thread, I will agree that your Markbass LM-3 is a fantastic amp. I have also owned the LM-3 and really loved it, and wish I still had it. I have nothing but high regards for that head...and its reliability/sound/flexibility.
Good luck in your decision!
I'm gonna retreat now:nailbiting:
