Get the Stage 800, it's got a looper if you get the MGT-4 switch & if you're not a stickler about your effects it will accomplish what you want.

All the amp models alone are worth the extra money for the Stage 800.

Thankfully, I don't need all the effects since the cash flow is negative for awhile(taxes, etc.)

Well, I've been playing with the 800 for about 45 minutes. All I can say is "Wow!" Loud, clear and tight, great effects, the looper, the weight....so far nothing to dislike.
I'm not a guy that usually plays with many effects, occasionally envelope filter, compression, and once in a blue moon some chorus. That being said, I'm obsessed with the synth sounds right now. How fun is that sh!t? "Let's groove tonight"...

Just to be clear, I am not anti-FSO. My shortish fingers are better able to deal with 'skinny' Gibson necks, which is why you see my Rumbles with my TBird. Such as:

Ah well, I wasn't exactly in my right mind when evaluating the effects on the Studio 40.
After absolutely no one agreed with me about the effects with an expression pedal I assumed either, A: No one else is using an expression pedal with their effects, or B: It's not the amp, it's ME!

It turns out the effects aren't all jacked up like I originally thought, they just need to be adjusted. EVERY detail needs to be adjusted.
I finally got the pitch shifter to respond in a pleasing manner by adjusting everything, but mostly the toe/heel settings.

The default setting is really low for the Up position & really high for the Down position, which is why it sounded like a robot maneuver when being manipulated.
It even works well with guitar now that I have it adjusted right. No more idle pining for a double-locking vibrato guitar!

As far as "studio-quality" effects go, I'll hold off on that judgement until the day that I can get a closer approximation of the Wah on Black Sabbath's N.I.B.:

The 20 y/o Bassman 25 is still an amazing amp(though it's 15 # heavier than the R40). It has a slight 'bzz' that I gotta get rid of but sounds awesome through my R112 cab.

Wait those old Bassman's had the ability to power an extra cab? If true I was a damn fool for selling my Bassman 100. It was heavy but lighter and sounded better then the Peavey rig I replaced it with. I would totally have just bought a 115 to put under it.

I had the B25 up maybe 1/3 volume. Great tone and enuff for a lot of the small rooms we play in. IDK about other Bassman's, but the 25's external spkr jack defeats the internal 10" when you plug in an 8 ohm extension.

Well, I bought the Rumble 800 Stage, now the agonizing 2+ hour drive home.
I had to be out of town for an appointment with my son and the local guitar store (West's Music in Coralville, Iowa) is a place I used to visit often and bought my first fretless, my hartke 410 xl and 3500 head back in 1991 or 92. I called them and they had one in stock. Went over after his appointment and played it about 25 minutes and knew it was coming home with me! Anxious to put some time in with this combo over the next week.

Welcome Rumbler # 1038! The waiting is the hardest part. I have a new rifle I bought a couple of months ago and haven't had weather good enough to go to the outdoor range. Rumble on!

Stage 800 is 2x10 right? How many watts is it 8ohms compared a 500 running at 8ohms?

Also, about the new rumble additions... the 800 head is absolutely great to have now, but do u think the lt25 is a bit... pointless?! I mean, how small do you want. I would never even consider anything smaller than a studio 40.

May as well not have an amp and just play it acoustically then!

The Rumble 15 and 25 have their very useful place for practice or beginners. Likewise, the LT25 seems to also have a place for practice or beginners with modeling!

What is more cost effective, getting a rumble 500 combo, with like, 4 or 5 pedals, including price of good patch cables too, compared to just 1 stage 800?

How many pedals can you buy for half* the price difference between the 500c and the Stage? *Allow the other half of the price difference for the extra power of the Stage over the 500c.

Thanks Gravedigger Dav! Our weather here hasn't been conducive to getting outside for anything other than snow removal. Forecast calls for another 3-5" this weekend. So I should get quite a bit of alone time with the Stage 800. I shall, indeed, Rumble on!

Could it be that Fender has really discontinued the v3 200 and 500 heads?? Based on their latest print catalog and their website, it sure looks like it.
For me, that's a terrible development. I prefer separate heads and cabs, rather than combos, and paid $250 for a used 500 head in September. (One of my best decisions ever.) Now, these fairly new amps will become "rare collectibles" and command much, much more. People will snap them up.
