Fender Rumble Club

Hi Gang..

Guess I'm the newest member. Thanks to Linnin and others from my poll, I just picked up a new Rumble 350 from Guitar Center for $306, shipped to my door! GC had a Prez Day sale and while I had to chat with a service rep, they extended the discount to this Fender. Must be wanting to clear inventory for the new Rumbles. There loss... My gain.

One question I had... Why could you not wire a switch and jack between the amp and speakers and use it as a head to an external cabinet? I know one complaint was the 350 didn't gave an external speaker jack,,.. Would this not solve this?

Well anyway.... I'm excited to receive my newest toy!! Do I get a number? :)

Thanks

Welcome to The Fender Rumble Club, Jeffery! :hyper:

You are member number 94. You got a fabulous deal for sure.

As to your question. No. Your Rumble 350 combo has an internal load of 4 ohms and is already running at an optimal level. Any modification will void your 5 year warranty.

Thanks... And the question was informational.... Wouldn't jeopardize the warranty! I did note that some sites show them using 4ohm speakers and others (including the manual I downloaded) show being 8ohm. Was there a revision somewhere?

Anyway....'Rumble on, and now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.' (Sorry Led Zep) :bassist:

Love my little Rumble 150. Powerful enough for jamming at the house (aka annoying the wife and neighbors) :)
Got it about a year ago, but just joined TB the other day.

Thanks for the welcome mrb327 (and everyone else here)!
I'm just a hobbyist/play for fun/my own enjoyment. I didn't (the wife didn't want me to) spend a ton on gear, but wanted decent stuff. I was looking at a Peavey TnT but the Rumble 150 just did it for me. After about 2 hours trying each out, I went home with the Rumble and don't regret it.

Hey guys,

I just scored a Rumble 350 combo off ebay. The cab is slightly damaged and it's missing a speaker, but for $70 + s/h I think it will make a good project. I have a few questions for the experts here:

1) Do you think 2 Eminence BP102's would work ok with this amp? I already have them in my Rumble 100 and I like their tone. It would make sense for me to put them in this 350 and sell the 100 as it becomes obsolete.

They're 200 watts each for 400 W of power handling, but I know I will not be cranking this amp any time soon (I'm a non-gigging newb on bass).

2) I know a parallel extension speaker jack is easy to wire up, I have worked on many guitar amps. Can someone confirm how to do this? (I believe it just needs an isolated jack with the "shoulders")

3) If I wanted to be adventurous, I may try to put a tube preamp in this thing to get an imitation TV Duo Ten Bassman thing going on. Any idea what kind of preamp would be required?

I started a thread asking about DIY hybrid amps and got a couple of ideas but none of them very affordable. A tube preamp is dirt simple to make if you have power transformer taps, but I'm not very familiar with these digital switching power supplies!

Thanks for your help guys -this makes Rumble #4 for me. Do I get a medal?

I don't have the amp yet but it can be seen here (2 crappy iPhone photos):

It sounds to me like the amp blew one or both speakers and the circuit is probably ok. As long as the O&B ICEpower module is ok, I will be happy. My plan is to drop the BP102's in, repair the MDF and re-tolex the cab. I see a few screws missing for the grille too but that's no big deal.

That Rumble has taken quite a tumble! :( I hope you don't have any additional hidden damage to the cab, but you'll find out soon enough. The Eminence BP102's will sound superb. Be sure to take the time to line the cab with a good quality acoustic foam while you're at it as it makes a huge difference. Good Luck! :)

What is the minimum load on the amp? 2,4, or 8 ohm.
What is the ohms on your speakers 4,8 16, or 32.

If the two BP102 speakers are 8ohm each and wired parallel and your amp is 4 ohm minimum then adding a speaker on an external speaker output wired in parallel will damage your amp by falling below the minimum load rating. 8=8=8ohms = 3.2 ohms - unless you can switch of the internal speakers.

if your speakers are 16 ohm then you'd have an internal load of 8 ohms and you could add another 8 ohm cab to an external jack assuming your amp is a 4 ohm minimum load.

Wired parallel...
8ohm + 8ohm = 4 ohm
8ohm + 4ohm = 3.2 ohm
4ohm + 4ohm = 2 ohm

Adding an ext spkr jack is just taping off the + and - sides of the speaker feed with a non closing jack like a Speak-on or XLR connector. - meaning that part of the circuit is OPEN when the plug is removed.

Hey, first post here, been a member for about a month.
Picked up a lightly used Rumble 350 combo and loving it!

Anybody replaced the horn in this combo. I can hear a slight difference, but not much when it's on.

Great first post and excellent question. The horn is not a horn at all, rather it is a piezo tweeter. It is a very sweet tweet that is exceedingly smooth and subtile. It's range is 2KHz - 18KHz. The louder your amp the more presence the tweeter provides.

The very last thing you want in a bass combo or cabinet is a loud brash horn honking it's head off. Bad, very bad. So don't do that.

Rumbles Rock!

Lol, no, wasn't looking to get too horn-y, lol.
I just hear very little difference. But perhaps it's because I'm not playing at very high volumes. Plus as I'm just starting to play again after a 15 year hiatus, I'm just re-learning and playing basic, mostly low register stuff anyway, so not playing much higher end stuff that would be in the tweeters range anyway.

Thanks for the welcome!
