Fender Rumble Club

Hey guys, have definately not read all 600 plus pages here, but seems from what I have read, not much talk about the 12V3. Can't find much said elsewhere on line either. Any idea why? Any thoughts about the 12's?
I love them and so do many others even over much more expensive Aguilar 112 Neos. I have a pair of V2 112 Neos that I love. Run a search of this thread and you'll lots of love of Fender Rumble 112's.

I've read that 15" speakers produce a bigger wave which is heard in the audience but cannot be heard clearly at the speaker - what is your experience?

That sounds like junk science.
If you wanted a full-wave diameter speaker for your E string, you need to build yourself a 286.6" diameter speaker.

Sound waves vary by frequency. If your driver accurately reproduces those frequencies there is no difference at the cone at the moment of reproduction. After the cone generates those frequencies at lot depends on the cabinet and tuning as to what the audience hears. As a general rule of thumb, a 15" woofer is going to produce wider dispersion by the simple virtue of being bigger. Also the volume of air moved comes into play. Again as a general rule of thumb 1x15=2x10.

Quick answer: you can't go wrong.

I've tried both. Just adding an extra cab -- any extra cab(?) -- opens up the sound in a big way, bringing out the amp's full potential at 4 ohms and coupling speakers to produce "constructive interference." It's hard to describe, but "Once you go stack, you never go back." I want that sound even at low home-practice volumes.
Oh great. And I thought I was fine - now I have to go get a 210 cab. :roflmao:

Thanks linnin, Reason, still seems like not nearly as many 12's being sold or talked about compared to other Rumble cabs. Reason I asked is I have GAS for a pair of 12's as I like the way most 12's sound and I currently own a 15 , 2x10, and 410 cab. So looking at the Rumbles, the 12 and 15 are the same price. I would have to buy two cabs and was thinking either 2 112's, or two 15's, or a 12 and 15. I know a lot would be tonal preferance, but the 15 has wheels, and the 12 is a bit smaller to haul, and when loading in it seems it would be pretty easy to just put the 12 on top of the 15 and just roll in. I like rolling rather than humping. I have tried the Aggie 12's and didn't care for the Sl's. Not loud enough. Did like the GS's, but pretty pricey. We play pretty loud and usually no PA support.

The Rumble 100 with its 12" speaker does sound great.

Buy what, a pair of 12's, a pair of 15's or one of each?

The general opinion is that the 112 v3 cabinets are the clearest and most balanced of the new Rumble cabs (vs the 210 and 115). But, clear and balanced is a matter of taste, and I think they all sound great. Since you mentioned that the Aggie SL112s weren't loud enough, I'd choose a pair of 115s to make sure your volume needs are met.

Hey Bob, Thanks for your response. Do you think the 12's are most balanced and clearest as in having a less vintage sound and somewhat less bottom end? I may be wrong, but aren't 15's usually full sounding, but not particularly loud?

I too would vote for a pair of 15s

My next door neighbor commented on how good I sounded. ;)

Hopefully that was a compliment.

I once complimented a nextdoor neighbor in an apartment where I used to live by telling him how good his audio system sounded. I was simply trying to hint at the idea his music was so loud I could hear it in my suite. Just a nice way to saying, "Turn it down, buddy!" :D
