Fender Rumble Club

I picked up a NOS Rumble 112 today, my first new cabinet:

Been recording our band. The Rumble 500C DI makes zero sound--except the glorious bass.

The guitarist is using a Blackstar tube amp--lot of pop and hiss. Ughhh.

I have compared the sound of the EBMM Bongo to my previous recordings of the SUB bass.

Well, there is no--I REPEAT-NO comparison.

AhhOoooGah! AhhOoooGah!

Dive! Dive! All Dive!

Today even more subtractive EQ settings for serious depth of tone.
Started with Gain and all tone controls dialed down to 7 o'clock or 0 if you will.
Contour voicing: ON Vintage voicing: ON. Master Volume: High Noon
Added: a smidge of Treble (not too much) 8 o'clock; a dash of High Mids (about 8:30 or so), Bass & Low Mids both at 9 o'clock

Tah-Dah! Instant Motown Soul. Use a classic Precision Funk Wrench.
Adding Gain brings the heat. I brought it up a tad to just under 9 o'clock, any more is excessive, and I also like it with Gain fully diminished.
Ended up cranking the Master up to 2 o'clock ( just point the line on the control knob at the red power LED). I felt this was giving me the full wattage and headroom this amp had to offer. Neighbors all got in their cars and left. It is Whiskey Wednesday after all. Bang The Bong. Get It On. Be Thankful.

Whiskey Wednesday? Right on!

Your understanding of settings on these things is very helpful, Linnin. As always, thanks! And happy T-Day to all!
You are quite welcome, @Indiedog :) For more of an ampeg B-15 tone, just raise the high mids up to 10 o'clock or so. Any more than that and they just get too nasal. The Rumble will never have the indistinct blubber bottom of a B-15 (thank heaven), but you can over boom the bottom with ease so be careful down there. :bassist:

Copied these settings and emailed them to myself for testing tonight. I assume you did this with your 200?

BTW, I happened to try out a 200 with a MIM P Monday. I can see why you like that 15" goodness.
Anyone here using a 200c with a 2x10 extension?

Yes, I did, and I've added them to the Tone Pool. Yes the Eminence 15" woofer in these Rumbles is especially delicious. Some people are really terrified to go low, but there is plenty of good clean definition if you do it right. Low does not have to equal mud or boom. To use the contour voicing effectively you absolutely have to go into subtractive EQ.

Yes I do play sax although I used to play it a lot more when I came up with this name. At the time Katy was my dog. I played sax in a few different community college jazz bands and had a jazz band for a few years. I got burnt out.

I started getting together and playing guitar and ukulele acoustically with friends, and was hearing bass lines in my head so I started playing bass. Now I'm the "bass lady". Weirdly I enjoy the bass because I approach it somewhat intellectually - using patterns on the fingerboard combined with knowing some music theory.

My hope is that this Rumble 500 will do the job for a larger amp and cab. I play with an old timey group at some outdoor festivals, farmers markets and the like and they either won't put my bass through FOH, or there is none available. My Phil Jones Double 4 doesn't cut it even as a monitor to be mic'd. I am also playing in a Christmas concert in a couple of weeks in a large hall where there is not much of a PA. I don't need massive power because usually I'm playing with acoustic players where only a couple are plugged in, and if there is a drummer he is pretty light handed. I know from experience that a 100 watt amp with 12" speaker won't be enough.
