Throughout history, innovations have come along that set a new standard and become the icon of their kind.
The Volkswagen is the first that comes to mind. Ferdinand Porschc designed it at Hiter's request in 1934 and they were produced from 1938 until 2003. During that time 21,529,464 were built. They have been used for everything you can imagine. They weren't exotic or cool. They just did the job they were designed to do extremely well.
Then, there is the Douglas DC-3. It also was first produced in 1938 and was built until 1943. There were 607 built. Because it was such a success, a military version, the C-47, was built. Because of the success, there were 16,000 built. They also were not cool nor beautiful, but could do just about anything. They were fast for their time and could use short runways. Even today, after 80 years, there are and estimated 1,000 still in active service carrying passengers and cargo. Some are used as crop dusters.
And now, we have the Fender Rumble line. It doesn't have the macho cool effect of the SVT, the Super Bassman, or a Marshall stack, but it will stand up to any of them when it comes to being a useful and dependable amp. Its wide acceptance means they will be around a long time.
