Fender Rumble

From my experience gigging with the Rumble 100, the louder I need to go, the muddier the sound can get. So, as I turn up, I need to tweak EQ to get what I want.

The stock speaker is limited in what it can do and there is a compression built into the amp. Keep this in mind and it can handle a fairly loud gig.

Fenders offerings are great....and sounds Fendery.
Ampeg makes good options in the same price range...that sounds Ampeggy.
Theres several other makers making good stuff in the same range.
While you can't really "go wrong" with any of these, some have more features and reputations for reliability.
But the best way to decide between them is to go somewhere, say..Guitar Center or such and play through them.
You'll almost definitely prefer the sound of one over the other.

Every manufacturers amp's electronics will have it's own voicing, every manufacturers driver and cabinet design will have it's own tuning.

There's only one way to find which manufacturers voicing and tuning that's right for you. Take your bass and any effects you may use and go to all brick and mortar music stores that are available to you.
(I'd also suggest starting at your nearest GC. They will usually have available for you to try, Ampeg RB combos, Fender Rumble combos, Markbass combos, GC Acoustic bass combos and sometimes, Hartke, Orange and GK combos.)

Try any and every bass combo you can find. Don't consider brand name, cosmetics, driver size, ect., ect.

First and foremost, chose the system that, "your ears", approve of.

Any major company at that price range will be similar in quality. They will look different, they will sound a little different, and not all controls are the same.

All the more reason to try them out and pick the one that seems best for you.

Same. I can gig my Rumble 100 at small venues, but it works hard for it. Sometimes it just isn't enough however so if it's the OP's only amp I'd go bigger. I own a lot of amps so I can chose whatever works best for the event.
