Fender serial number sticker?

I went to look at a P bass today, great condition, played nice. I noticed something that i've never seen on a fender. The serial number was on a clear plastic sticker. Is this legit? He said it was something like a '92 if that helps

No way. Fender serial numbers were never stickers! They have been on waterslide decals before, but not a clear sticker.

it was on the back of the headstock, I will try to get a picture...everything on it looked real though, I'll have to ask him

I have seen some Squiers with serial numbers on a sticker on the back of the headstock, but never Fenders.
