Fender Silverface 1x15 cab?

So I have found what appears to be a great matching cab for my newly acquired Silverface Bassman 50. I have made a trade for it (they have to remove the 16 ohm speaker for me), and I am going to ask some advice for speaker suggestions when I get the measurements. Anyway, I haven't been able to find anything online about 1x15 cabs from Fender from that time period. The speaker in it dated to 1969. Anyone seen one of these?

Unless there is a front port, it is sealed. The thing was completely stuffed with old insulation, so I didn't get to inspect it real close. I'm thinking something NEO for it so that it's light and easily portable. Will have to be 4ohm for the Bassman.

Anyway, very cool and I'm very excited to find a matching cab for cheap that wasn't the regular 2x12 or 2x15!

I'm also getting an Ampeg GV-22 in the trade!

Got the cab.. It is sealed, and had some nasty silverface grill cloth. Promptly changed the grill cloth to new 70's style. Pine sides, particle baffle, thin particle back.

Outer dimensions are 29" x 21" x 11.5". I need a 4 ohm speaker, and was thinking of either the Eminence Legend CA154 or a Jensen MOD. Thoughts?

I still can't find what amp that cab originally went with. Surely there's some sales literature I can dig up somewhere. It had the tail on the logo, so I guess pre 73. The speaker in it was dated to 1969 and 16 ohm.

I think it will do great with a Bassman 50 though for light duty work. Just need to figure out what 4 ohm speaker to put in it.

I did a pretty extensive mod to my 72 Bassman 100 and used a pair of Basslite 12's that I already owned in it.
I modded the big 4x12 original cabinet to a 2x12 with port. Eminence gave me the specs to use for the size of my dimensions that weren't changing (width and depth). I was very happy with the results...looks, sound and portability.

Congrats, that is my favorite cabinet from Fender! I'd buy one of those in a moment if I could find one. Are you sure you need to switch out the stock 16ohm speaker, have you listened to it? I think an old JBL D series would sound fantastic in that cabinet. Will a 4 ohm speaker get you a lot more sound?

Yeah I think mine is different. It is only 29" wide, which the one with the Showman looks wider since that head is wider than a Bassman 50.

The place I bought it has probably 30 blackface and Silverface Fender amps. Several Bassman 2x12 cabs, and a couple Showman cabs. I had planned on a Bassman 2x12, but then I found this cab while searching out all of their Fender cabs. Their inventory sheet showed a Fender cab with a JBL, so I was going through every aisle and stack of amps cabs and found this cab. My hope was to find a single 15 by chance that would have had a 4 ohm d140.

It had the CTS 16 ohm in it, and way too much insulation. They emptied it, and now it's mine. It is definitely Fender, cause the grill cloth was very dirty silverface cloth with the Fender tail emblem that is aged quite a bit. Looks 100% stock and legit.

It's a mystery cab, but exactly what I was looking for!

The cabinet looks old. Whatever model it is, it fits your head nicely and that's all that matters.

You never know what was done to it. It could be an earlier blackface cab that had the grille cloth changed. If you look at the baffle, you might see old staple holes which could indicate that the cloth was changed. Then again, the baffle itself might have been changed or cut if a 12" speaker was originally in there. Sometimes there are grease pencil markings on the cab baffles.

The store that you bought it from sounds like an interesting place to visit.

Great guy, and has a lot of great stuff! I have been buying/trading with him for quite a while. He always has the good stuff!

Just speaking of Ampeg amps, he has a SB12, a B15, a V4, a VT-22 (that I just traded in for this Fender cab and a 1969 GV22), a mint 60's Rocket 2, and a 90's SVT in stock. Several dozen Fender combos and amp/cabs from the 60's and 70's, and about 100 other amps. Always a good selection of used Gibson guitars and a few Fenders and Ric's. Every guitar or bass you pick up is set up and usually plays like a dream. Right now, there is a 70's Mustang bass that is calling my name there.

His main business is acoustics and luthier work however.

I work about 5 min away, so I am always wanting to go on my lunch break to look around. I try to not be there more than once a week. I would go everyday if I could! Ahh..the smell of old amps..
