Fender stock strings - no colored ball ends?

Just got an American Ultra Jazz that according to the specs page comes with 7250m’s. Thing is, it has all gold ball ends. I ordered a “spare” set from Amazon using the spec sheet part number and they have colored ball ends. The Ultra is top load only and I would like the all gold ends or at least not a rainbow. Any ideas what to order? I love the stock string tone but would like to have some spares for when it’s time to change them. Have an email off to Fender but figured I’d ask the vast knowledge that is TB.

The color-coded ball ends are for all the retail packages, while the Fender strings with generic brass ball ends (also made by D'Addario) are only for the bulk orders destined to the Fender factory as part of the original equipment on their basses.

I figured that would be how it worked out. I was reading some debate that elixirs might be the same as the fenders? Any ideas on that or another similar to the 7250m that does not have colored ball ends?

Elixirs are very thickly coated. They’re hard to miss. Most strings don’t have colored ball ends. DR loriders are good.

There are a few telltale signs that Elixir strings are in fact made by D'Addario, except for the Nanoweb coating itself, which is the Elixir's specialty.

If you want to try a set of all-purpose NPS rounds similar to Fender 7250s, but without the color-coded ball ends, I would suggest the GHS Bassics.

I read up some on your thread about the bassics. I am leaning toward those. Have you A/Bd the bassics and the boomers? Any insight into which would be closer to the stock 7250s? Assuming of course the boomers are not color coded either.

Yes, I have tried both the Bassics and the Boomers on my 5-string Yamaha. I would say the Bassics are closer in their tonal character to the 7250s with a more neutral flavor with clean crispness. The Boomers are unique in their character with more of the low-mid grunt and grind and less of the top end.

Thank you. I will order a set of Bassics then. I did confirm with Fender exactly as you said. All retail packaging is made by D’Addario and has colored ball ends.

Assuming of course the boomers are not color coded either.

The Boomers do have generic brass ball ends, but red silk at the tuner end, while the Bassics don't have silk.

So to confirm - the generic no color that are on new fender basses and the colored ball end versions are the same string? And the gauge is 45-105?

I bought a new fender last week and was pleasantly surprised enough by the strings that I think I may have a new set installed when I get it set up. And I’m basically a flat wound guy!

They are very nice strings, my basses that do not wear flats or Roto's wear Fender Super 7250's
