Fender Stu Hamm Urge II Jazz Pickup Size Issue

Hello,

I recently tried to replace the stock jazz pickups on my Urge ii, but noticed the whatever replacement pickups I tried to install were too big. I tried installing my Delano JMVC 4 and then tried a set of Fender Ultra Noiseless Vintage Jazz to no avail - they were both several millimeters larger than the Stu Hamm's pickups.

Would anyone happen to know of any direct replacement? Thanks!

Can you measure the stock pickups?

4 string Jazz pickups come in two lengths, 91mm or 95mm. Typically they're used in a pair, 91mm in the neck and 95mm in the bridge. Some less mainstream basses use 91mm pickups in both positions, yours may be one of those.

Some pickup makers sell sets with both pickups the same length, i.e. a 91mm neck pickup with a 91mm bridge pickup. Bartolini come to mind. Many other mainstream builders will make such a set to order if you ask (Nordstrand, Fralin, Lollar, probably Aguilar, etc). You can also just buy two 91mm neck pickups and use them together, but if they're single coil they won't be humbucking when both are on, and a neck pickup used in a bridge location is often lower output than is practical.
