Fender-Style Basses Neck Dive Question

Hi. I have a Squier P-Bass Special (with P & J pickups but a P-bass body style). With some tweaking it's a very playable bass and pretty nice considering the price. My only main complaint with it is that is has pretty noticeable neck dive which makes it a strain to play for long periods of time because you fight to keep the headstock up. For this reason alone I was considering getting another bass, but did not know if this was isolated to this bass or to all fender-style basses, like Fender, Squier, G&L, etc. Also, is there a way to better balance this bass that might make it more comfortable to play for long periods? Thanks!

Neck dive depends mostly on how heavy the body is relative to the neck; the second consideration is the positioning of the top strap button (generally where it is relative to the 12th fret). Neither of those things is "the same" for all Fender-type instruments.

Two main options:
1) Try out different basses until you find one that balances better. It could be a Fender type, who knows, you have to try it to find out.
2) Get a Steinberger strap extension hook and bolt it to the back of the top horn of your bass. This will move the balance point forward enough to more than likely cure the neck dive. The downside of course is bolting something to the body of your bass--some people would not want to do that, for aesthetic or resale-value reasons.
