Just dropped these in my 5 string jazz and replaced a set of Aguilar Hots. Really like the sound I’m getting. A little more meat in the mids and zing in the top end compared to the Aguilars. Just what I was looking for. Recorded a little country jam with them after getting them installed.

Forgive my ignorance but Im still learning.
Wouldnt an eq pedal of sorts give you what youre looking for instead of spending a few hundred dollars on new pickups?
If theyre that similar and its just a thing or two that changes I would think an eq would do the trick.

Everyone has different priorities, many folks don't want the hassle of powering or wiring up pedals, many would prefer to go straight into the amp. Every EQ stack usually has some "voicing" characteristics to them as well. The frequency and Q for each knob can be different (can be Passive or Active too), there's some variation amongst different models..

Unless we're talking fully-active pickups like EMGs, it can get pretty complicated to "fix" things after the fact with an EQ pedal. Not impossible, just could be more trouble than some folks want to fool with.

Great question. The Aguilars that I had in there previous (they were in the bass when I bought it) kind of have their own baked in sound. The top end is rolled off and something was missing in the mids (for me) that I just couldn’t EQ in. I feel these Fender pickups have a more open and full sound which I prefer. I would rather have a zingy top end that I can tone down as opposed to trying to boost treble that is not there in the first place. Hope that makes sense.
