Fender Vintage really worth it?

From a player standpoint, they're not worth it to me. I think the newer MIA Deluxe and MIM Deluxe models from the mid 90's and later era sound much better.

If I was a collector, then yes they're worth it because of the history behind them and IMO their over inflated value.

If you are just going for that vintage sound, you probably don't need to spend Pre-CBS Fender kind of money.

I have owned a 64 Precision for a good long time now, and while it is definitly the best sounding bass I've ever played, and I've played others of mid 60's vintage that could easily hang with my own (others not so much), you can get REALLY close to that sound without forking out $5K plus. I know I've got REAL close IMO, for WAY less money than that. :)

Sure the feel of a bass that's been played for 45 years is going to have a different feel than a new one, but the American Re-Issue Fenders are Darned good, and the MIM Road Warn series is also quite good, and can be had for well under a grand if you look around. IMO the RW's have a fairly similar feel to genuine vintage. Not the same, but close.

Is it the same as the "real deal"? Not quite, but close enough IMO, and I own the "real deal" :)

I had a MIA Deluxe jazz. The sound was not the classic jazz bass sound, more hi-fi modern. The MIA standard more close to the classic jazz bass sound.

I have a used American Vintage '75 Reissue Jazz, and it is fantastic. It sounds and plays great, and the build quality and attention to detail is top notch. I have played and owned a lot of expensive boutique basses (see profile) and this ranks right up there with the best of them. I bought it "used" (it still had the plastic on it and looked like it had never been played) for around $1100 on eBay, and I will never sell it.
