FenderBird build JAEbird II

Polaris white color coat with clear coats, all nitrocellulose.

JAEbird II headstock with Ultralite tuners. This will match the body.

Headstock finished, dummy nut. Real one is bone. That haze on the sides is reflection...trust me ;)

Control Cavity. Solid aluminum tape shielding. This is the REAL duct tape, very economical alternative to copper sheet or shielding paint IMO.

Pup cavities are not shielded since Thunderbucker pickups are completely shielded by their metal cases. Designed and built by Steve Soar at ThunderBuckerRanch.com

Sunday AM at the Church of Bass. Nut cut, ready to set up. Awaiting pup rings and pick guard. Weight 8 lbs.

That is one sexy bird! Wow.

EDIT: Honestly, works great without pickguard & pickup rings. Hope you keep that as an option.

Thanks, I'm digging it naked (the 'Bird, not me). This one is spec'd with pick guard, but it's always an option for future builds.

That's a slab of Korina in the background...trust me.

Strap I made in '77 for my then brand new RI. Vinyl convertible top rear window material. Very slippery. If there's no neck dive with this strap there's NO NECK DIVE with this bass.

Looking really fantastic!

I'm partial to the non-reverse myself, but I LOVE what youve done with your design, especially the headstock.

Getting close. Buffed out with Meguiar's Ultimate Polishing Compound after wet sanding to 1500. Pickguard is slightly
modded from original JAEbird, also no front ring.

Customer asked for partially recessed Dunlop strap buttons. The back button is not recessed so the 'bird will stay
in place on almost any stand. Neck heel is shaved.

3/8" forstner, 1/2" deep. If you do this over the neck pocket you have to shorten the screw. Use some gel super glue
in the screw hole as thread locker. I like this look better than the completely recessed buttons.

I see a new logo on there....
Yep, I've been working on that. Also have one for the original JAEbird, this is almost it.

Looks good, I dig the more traditional look of just mounting the neck pickup in the pickguard with no ring.

On the original JAE FenderBird I believe Peter Cook used 2 rings, on others one. NR Thunderbirds had only one so it's possible PC had more pups than rings.

This was a customer request but he's getting both rings. Steve Soar at Link Removed who builds the pickups also makes the rings.
