Fender's Current Jazz Line-Up

My experience has been that I've never really played a Fender Jazz Bass that wasn't at least decent. Most are pretty good. I'm probably not the pickiest player. There are differences in them, but I agree that it often comes down to the individual basses than models. Currently, I have an American Deluxe and a Squier Affinity. Yes, the American is made of higher quality stuff, but that Affinity has no business being as good as it is.

There's plenty of blind Fender hate on TB. I used to be one of them. But I've changed my tune. The American Professional II line is spectacular. The necks are so smooth with rolled fret edges. I feel like Fender figured some things out with the Am Pro II line. Every one I've played has been excellent.

IMHO, the neck is worth the price of admission.

What's the read on Fender's current Jazz line-up? I'm looking into buying a Jazz, and I find myself struggling to know which models they even have available.

Really I just want a list of what models they have available. But more importantly, I'd also like to know how folks are feeling about the current run of Fender's Jazz offerings. Are they good, are some models doing better than others? Is it worth looking at Squiers?

Personally, I'm looking mainly at the American Professional Classic Jazz Bass right now, but curious about what else is going on, and hey if anyone thinks I should look at another model instead, let me know
You could always play about with Fender's Mod Shop and see if a combination there inspires you. It's a USA Fender and no more expensive than off-the-rack retail. It's just that any return would have to show a fatal flaw.

You might want to consider a Sire V5 if you want a passive Jazz style bass. My fretless P5 has the same level of quality as my Fender Am Pro II, but it cost 1/4 of the price.

It's worth a mention, but for a little while longer, the Fender Mod Shop is offering some of their upgrades for free. @Thom Fioriglio ordered one recently and was able to apply an additional 10%-Off coupon on top of the freebies. Maybe he could point you in the right direction, assuming any of their options grab you. 🤔

They make some good Jazz basses, but do you want something good, or something great...I don't mean to put down Fender but I'm guessing you've never heard of Bacchus.

This is really similar to what I ended up going for.

I ended up going for the Fender Jazz American Pro Classic, the one I played in the store that I liked enough to keep thinking about and making this thread in the first place.

I convinced myself because the pickup spacing difference on my Geddy vs the American Pro Classic was granting enough tonal option differences for me that it felt right to get it if I liked it enough to keep looking back.

If you want active electronics get an ultra or an elite. If you want passive check out the fender mod shop.
