Few questions about Jaguar bass

These days you can find them used from 400 to 500 bucks. They're definitely worth it. Great bass, very comfortable to play, lot of versatility. Some people say you should change out the pickups and while I think they're fine, that's up to you. Good luck!
Hmmm, I have one and have a bit different take on it.
The pups they put in it are the same ones they put in the Geddy Lee Jazz. The spacing is the same as the vintage Jazz. The neck is a Jazz neck. Of course there are differences, and some say the routing for the extra electronics give it a different voice. I don't have a Jazz to A/B so can't say what I think about that. They are prone to some neck dive. There are some fixes for that, but some don't want to spend the time or money to do that. It doesn't bother me. The electronics usually come noisy, and as a fix, I put copper tape inside the cavities and the back of the pickguard, and also bridged the cavities with the copper and it quieted right down.
As far as price, I think you would be hard pressed to find a used one for $400. $500 to $650 is more realistic in my experience.
I have a Terapeak subscription, which lets me search eBay completed for 90 days. This is the low end result. A nice but nicked up a bit copy with no case or gig bag for $489 + $45 shipping.

Don't really understand why this one went for $940 with a case, but it did, and had 24 bids. The natural finish headstock ones seem to be higher priced. There are several sales near that price for them.

I am not sure about that 400-500 thing, i have seen them mostly sell for over 500, normally around 600.. I think the reason they have spiked in price is because they are no longer made...
Biggest sounding jazz bass fender makes, in series it is a monster! I have a couple in different colors and never had a noise issue with them, great basses awesome pickups too, just in your face.
i have a red Jag i was thinking of selling. Bought it recently from a neighbor. I mainly play my Jazz (s-1) switch and a RIC. I bought the Jag because one of the switches is my S-1 button , which i like and use a lot.
I own a heavily modified Jag, in my experience, it was a bit of a pain in the rear, but I love the thing. I converted mine to a passive stack knob setup (with seymour duncan 1/4 pounders), but prior to that, I loved the electronics.
Problems I had with mine:
the active/passive switch broke on several occasions, making it squeal loudly
the wires from the battery box kept coming unsoldered.
Now I kinda want to buy another one and keep it stock.
