fights at gigs

In my last band(Black Metal) all the gigs(backyard) we played had a few fights in our set. It's expected when you play this kind of music, but I don't tolerate fighting in this kind of area(even thou I enjoy it sometimes, theres always a high chance of weapons. I always keep a blade in my pocket just in case.) Anyways I'd give the signal to the drummer who slowed down the blast beat and my band would break from whatever song were doing and start playing "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer half way in the song. No one could really be serious during that-so then we would get a little quieter when everything cooled down and say "Hey you guys keep fighting and I'll keep playing this, so no fights=extreme black metal! GOT IT!" and this would be with the background of the song. Then we would break back into a song.

I've played TONs of cover gigs where fights break out... Mostly it was happening up north when I was playing gigs in and around Boston, Providence (nasty fight at the Met one night), Portland (always an angry crowd... dunno why), NYC (Kenny's Castaway's on Bleeker, I've played a couple gigs there with a heavy rocking band and a fight broke out each time), on the Cape (Cod, the Ritz used to yield some good ones)...

... But since I moved down here the only excitement closely related to a fight that has happened, during a gig in 'Scary-etta' (where Marietta and Smyrna, GA meet) at a place called "Doc's"... Man, this place is nasty, the women are nasty, the food isn't worth it and they pay $400 for 5 sets!!!

Anyways, we were in the middle of our 3rd set this one time, when a cat came walking briskly out of the bathroom and he was followed by two larger fellows (also walking a little upbeat). The two big cats pushed the 'brisk' fellow up onto a table and proceeded to empty vast amounts of cocaine (in multiple little tiny baggies) out from both of his jeans pockets and dumped them on the table top.... I guess they were undercover cops from the looks of the situation. :ninja:

The group and I were so blown away from this display that we continued to play (now instrumentally) and ended that set early to go outside and smoke a cigarette and laugh our arses off!

I once went to a fight and a concert broke out. It was one of those touchy-feely Sarah McLaughlin types of bands. When they started playing, a bunch of chicks in Birkenstock sandals rushed in and started tossing rose petals everywhere and serving up tofu sandwiches and veggie stir-fry on brown rice. The obviously disgusted promoter called in his security "gentlemen" who ejected the miscreants (after downing all the stir-fry and tofu, of course) and the fight continued in peace.

Sounds like a scary nightmare
