Finally, after years, converted to Ampeg.

IMO the only signature aspect of good Ampeg tone is the preamp. They discontinued their best preamp and only make it available exclusively in the SVT 8Pro. Meanwhile my rig kicks the crap out of any full Ampeg rig I've ever heard, because it has the SVC-PL preamp and non-Ampeg power amp and cab. If your company's preamp was helping to sell other brands of amps and cabs, you'd discontinue it too.

LOL! Actually it got discontinued because bass players didn't buy enough of them to make it worth it to continue with them. But it's a damn fine preamp, I'll give you that.

I just sold my VT bass pedal and RBI preamp and have the SVP-CL preamp coming this Wed . It's been 30 years since I've owned an SVT and I can hardly wait . The weight was my biggest hangup with a vintage SVT and with my lightweight Crown Drivecore amp I should be set .

But, I admit that the Ampeg sound is great. I've considered getting a PF500 head just for variety (would it tear a hole in the universe if I played it through my Markbass cabs? LOL), and so as to have more than one separate amp to rely on (I have a LMII also, but it's confined within my 121H combo).

Anyway, tip o' the hat to Ampeg from a Markbass guy.

Good attitude man! I feel the same way. I like Mark Bass too & hated to part with my LMII. Nicely made & great sounding li'l amp.
If I didn't have a wacky back, I'd still have my SVTII.
I've found a darn good 'sub' in the Traynor YBA300 tho. Man it's a nice amp, & I'm getting MY sound outta it.
Can't beat 300w of all tube pwr - squishy AND powerful :)

Congrats man! I really dig the PF series heads, but in the end Genz got me my micro head fix. But--when I have the cash to spare--I'm definitely going to pick myself up the MicroVR stack, there's just something about that Ampeg tone in a small package that screams BUY ME ;)
