FINALLY, Apple... (GB on the iPad)

I'll add a big +1 to the SVT model. I've been using iRig and AmpliTube since Xmas last year as a jam and sketch pad for guitar. I picked up the SVT model a few weeks ago and now my iPad has replaced just about everything else for solo practicing on guitar and bass! I still can't get over how great the SVT sounds. Being able to import songs from your iTunes library is killer as well. I've been loving this for learning new music in a few bands.

Brian, is there anyway to get just a two track recorder with AT, or do you have to purchase all 8 channels?

Just commandeered my Mums iPad and downloaded GB.

I'm a little disappointed, it came to me the other day that the iPad could make a great lightweight recording platform, at least for amateur stuff, as well as a "drafting" platform. Then they announced Garageband for iPad 2... then I found out you could get it on the original and though I was finally in luck.

But yeah, not quite what I was looking for. I don't have any of the adapters (iRig or whatever) you need to plug in my bass or guitar, but just playing with the virtual instruments and interface it seems that its just a little bit toylike. I'm sure it would be fun to mess around with, but I don't think its going to work for me.

What i'm really looking for is something that is portable (therefore, iPad seems the best option), can be opened and prepped within a few seconds, I can lay down a drum track real quick either with a sequencer type system or with touch drums, and then plug in and play whatever I have just come up with on Bass/Guitar so I can get a short demo done quickly and easily. Then once i've got the draft worked out there i'll setup my other gear and record it properly.

I hoped GB would do this, but it doesn't seem like its quite there. Anyone know of an app that would work well for that sort of application? As far as I can tell its sort of a gap in the market, but I don't know if the market is there or not for anyone to bother developing it :/


Edit: For the record, well worth the $6 for a bit of fun if you already own an iPad. Not something i'd buy the device itself for though.

The SVT modeling on the Amplitube is great. I use the iPad to play with headphones or as a preamp when it is connected into my bass combo at home when I want to record stuff (instead of the Sansamp BDDI).

I got my iklip and irig, also purchased amplitube and the 8 track recorder. It's cool, but... the iRig has major crosstalk issues. I'm unable to record a clean track without hearing the other tracks in the background.
Brian at IK and others: I'm interested in hearing about workarounds or mitigations to this problem.
