Finally found the perfect bass for me...Ibanez SR70 content

I bought an Ibanez SR750 a few days ago, and man this thing is amazing, it has the tone I have been looking for, the comfort, weight, feel and the looks. I am in love with this thing.

Funny thing is I used to own a SR 505 and found it dead and could not wait to get rid of it. Strange, cause it has the same electronics and neck, just different woods in the body. SR 505 = Mahogany while the 750 is walnut and maple.

Well I hope that my next one will be as nice, I am getting a SR 605 which is all ash, so it should hopefully be lively as well ( I hope!!)

If this works for me I think my gas problem will be cured for a while:)

I will keep my Fender P and J because of the unique mods I have done and my Raven West as a backup for the 750 and my 8 string just cause it's an 8 string, but I don't need any more. (Famous last words I am sure)

Here is a pic, obviously it's the one on the right. That red Zone is going to fund the SR 605

Glad you found love in your new Ibby!! I've always been quite the Ibanez fan and the SR "700" series are a great value bridge between the mid SR's and the Prestige Basses. You'll really be amazed when you move into some of the neck through SR's and (if you like a wider neck) BTB's.

congrats on the new bass, I've been eyeballing the sr800s lately myself, when I do get one it will be my 4th sr and my 5th will be a sr1200
the 750 is walnut over mahogany not maple

I think their is something about putting a laminated top on these bases that realy wakes them up. I have an all mahogany sr500 and a 500qm with a quilted maple top and the qm is noticabley brighter and punchyer with the same amp and eq setings and it sounds to me like the walnut top has the same effect on your bass

hmm!!

I thought the center block was maple, thanks for the correction. This combo of wood really works though:)

You will love the 605 - I bought it 2 years ago and it is a very fine instrument. But, be gentle with it, the wood is very sensitive. I nearly scratched mine to death before my bass-tech put some protection film at some spots where my nails use to hit the wood

Yeah, it's bare. It is just oiled. I wax it every 6 month to keep the influence of liquids to a minimum and make the wood shiny :-)

He put it on two spots: the first is above the neck pickup, because I play finger-picking style and I pick quite hard, so my finger-nails leave some marks in the wood.
The other is under the last few frets where the fretboard goes over into the body. While slapping my nails leave scratches there, too. No problem anymore with these, and you see it only when the light is shining on it in the right angle. Usually it's invisible.
But be warned: This stuff glues VERY good. You have a chance that you cannot remove the film without damaging the wood. Since this bass is my main gigging/rehearsing bass, I don't mind that. I know I will keep it this way

that's one of my ishues with these new ibanezes is the fragile oil finish they put on them but I know it's part of how they keep production costs down, it's a hell of a lot cheeper to wipe or spray some oil on a bass than it is to paint it and hang it in a dust free room for the day.
i'm a custom painter and i'm seriously considering putting a clear coat on my 505qm so I don't mess up the maple top and I know it will bring out the grain of the maple better than the oil does.

I was a fender guy for 20+ years. When I went to buy a new bass, the sr 700 won my affection. Lightweight, easy to play, tone options....yes please! I'm sold on Ibanez. I'm a sales guy at a local music store, and even the entry level ibanez bass is incredible for the price. Great bass to have in the arsenal. Next purchase, an SR605. Holy crap! Plays like a dream, and Bartolini pick ups? Yes please! www.cahousemusic.com

+1 The stuff is like armor. One more reason why I like to buy the lower end models and just upgrade the electronics as time allows.

Oh ... the poly finish on my old SRX700 is even tougher. Mine has gotta be around 10 years old and there is not a single dent, ding, or scrape anywhere. If it weren't for the fine patina of surface scratches and the slightly discolored bridge it could pass for new.
