Finally gettin' a Geddy...

If I want a meatier/bass tone, I usually open both p'up's wide (or turn down the bridge p'up a little) and play over the neck p'up.

If I want more of a treble tone for some slappin' and poppin'- I back off the neck p'up and play over the bridge p'up.

I like that versatility. Mostly I play w/ both p up's open wide and my tone open wide to treble.

That is generally the approach that I use with my Gibson Thunderbird...

It has the same three-knob control configuration as the Geddy Jazz...

That is another reason that I picked the Geddy for a back-up/companion... Similar neck feel and controls, but now I have a different set of sounds to work with...

I'm looking at the Geddys myself. I was going to get a Lakland, but I'm reconsidering.
Lakland's are VERY cool, but the tone out of a 55-02 is very different from a J. If you want a great J tone, get a Geddy. If you want more of a modern sound, like a Stingray plus a modern P and modern J blended tone, the Lakland does it fine, but the bridge bite is not there the same on a Lakland. It's more stingray like than J like.

While I was picking up some patch chords I tried a Geddy Lee sig Jazz out for the first time. What a great bass! I played an American Standard Jazz before noticing that they had a Geddy model.

I haven't jonsed for a new Jazz bass in some time. IMO It's reasonably priced, and I liked it's feel better than the MIA Jazz they had on hand. I especially liked the neck's finish.

I put it back on the wall before plugging it into an amp. I felt the "urge to splurge", so I wisely bailed.

Clue me in a little bit. What are the main differences between a geddy lee and a normal jazz? I know the geddy comes with black block inlays and a badass bridge, but are the pickups different? I'm just curious because I always here good things about the geddy lee model and I want to know how it compares to a normal USA jazz bass. Thanks for the info.

Pickups are US Vintage series somethings ('62RI pickups apparently). The neck is skinnier than a regular Jazz in a good way it seems, as most people like it. Blocks aren't actually inlays.
