Finally gonna start first build

Ok, I got the fingerboard glued on the other day, I drilled the string holes yesterday, and today I glued on the wings. However, I did make a mistake with gluing and clamping the wings today. They slid when I was clamping, and I didn't notice at first. I tried to loosen the clamps and correct it, but the glue was already starting to set. I decided to leave it and attempt to deal with it later while shaping the body some more.
Here's a picture of the problem.

I penciled in a line on the neck. I may cut it that way if I can't find a better way to fix it. It would either be a cut like that or remove a chunk off the end of the left wing.

I think that you should cut it like that. It will look pretty sweet.

Aw, I should have come here before I started hacking away at it today. I ended up cutting that whole piece off and some more off of the left wing. The bass is currently nearly 4 inches wider than I planned on it being though, so maybe it was better to cut off the pieces.
I weighed the bass earlier and it's only around 12-13 pounds, not much different from my T-40. Plus I still have much more to carve off on it so it may end up being lighter than I expected.
I still have a lot of work to do on this thing. Most of the rough carving is done, but I still have to thin the neck some and carve the wings a bit.

Here it is right out of the clamps today.

I cut off the end piece with a hand saw, but it left a big flat area.

I made some more cuts with the hand saw and got it rounded out a bit.

I have to present this bass tomorrow to the independent study committee after school. I have the whole day to work on it some more though. I think I'll round over some of the corners and make it a bit more presentable, plus make a powerpoint of my progress so far. I was planning to have this bass done by now, but I didn't know how big of a project this was, so I guess the committee will have to be happy with a half finished bass. I don't believe anyone else has done something like this for independent study at my school, so even though it's unfinished, the teachers will probably be impressed anyway.

I've only just noticed, but the horns look a bit Wal-ish. Its looking good though. I wish I had the time/money/motivation to start (and finish!) something like this.
