finally ordered IEM's

ordered the EM900 set. Used to use that set up in my old band, so i know they will work for what im trying to do. I just know the earbuds that come with them are not exactly the best.

So i'm gonna start saving up for a new set of buds. Anybody got ideas What do you use and why?

And yes, I have browsed and used the search function. Just seeing if there are any ideas out there i have not already read yet.

I read a lot of good things about the Ultimate Ears Triple fi 10 right here on TB. So I bought a pair and I am very happy with the sound. The drawbacks are the fit (hard to get them in my ears deep enough, without being uncomfortable), and the looks ( they stick straight out of your ears and give that "Shrek" vibe).

I thought sending them off to have them re-shelled into customs would be the best of both worlds ( and it still might eventually). If you decide to go this route avoid inearcustom.com I'm 2.5 months into waiting for my ciems that were supposed to take 10 business days. I think you are going about it the right way by asking questions. I did a ton of research before I put down the money for my first set of IEMs.

Your budget will decide what to get and there is (luckily) a large choice nowadays to suit different budgets. You can get a universal set of buds or go the whole hog and get a custom molded set.

I choose to get custom molded IEMs. When I came to purchase mine I looked at all the major players in the custom molded IEMs market. It turns out that most manufacters use either one of two major armature driver manufactors. What differs between them is the crossover points they use in their designs. For me the choice was fairly simple - I went with 1964 EARS, the Quads, principally because as far as I could tell they had a comparable product to other players such as UE and JH audio but at a much more reasonable price point.

I use westone UM2's staight out of the box. Very good.

Another one for 1964 Quads. I've had them since Easter and I'm hooked. In fact just last night I finished building my own 8 channel splitter so I can pretty much roll up with my own IEM rig even if the provided PA has nothing!

Love the customs and yea 1964's are a bargain comparably.
