Finally played through an Ampeg Micro VR and SVT-210AV cab

Tonight I played a show that was backlined with this mini rig, and I was really impressed. Great tone, easy to work with, and I really like the cab ... I prefer how sealed cabs respond, though I don't own one currently. I enjoyed the head as well. The last Ampegs I played were backlined PF-500s in Nashville, back in the early days of that product, and I had problems during the performances both times. I've been a little wary of the small Ampegs since then, but this little thing was great. I understand the PF series issues have been worked out now as well.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this setup. I'm not sure I'll ever buy the head, but I could see myself picking up a couple or three of the cabs. I think the vertical 410 stack with my TC Electronic RH450 would sound great. Three of them with a 2.67 ohm stable head would make a great modular 610 rig as well.

I'm not in a position to spend money right now, but when I am next looking at a cab purchase, these little sealed 210s will be high on my list.

Yep. This set up punches way above it's weight. I have 2 of them and am thinking of adding 1-2 more to make a modular 610/810 with my V-4B head. Though I regularly gig with 2 of them and the MicroVR head.

They are tiny and are best when stacked vertically. You have plenty of room..

I have run early and later GK400RB's, 800RB's, MB500, PF350, TH350 through the 12" square footprint cab stack and they worked well with all … last (and incarnation of choice) was with a pair of MB200's … tough to beat for the cost and ticks all the boxes for quite a few folk in here … you can see a stack behind me in the pic to the left …

Edit to add: … I don't know how I forgot, I used a stack with a GK 700RBII for a long time too ...

I like GK amps quite a bit. The new Legacy 500 intrigues me with how they decided to have it make its max power (450 watts) at 2.67 ohms. 180 at 8, 300 at 4, and the 450 at 2.67. Combine that with 3 of the 210AVs and it would be a really great modular rig.

If you do get one or more, do yourself a favor and get covers for them. I’ve schlepped mine in the trunk of my car with Tuki covers each week for the past year and a half and they look brand new.

My first rig - the head and 1 2x10 cab. Two years later, just picked up a second cab, I think they changed the cloth or something as the new one (left) doesn't quite match. I love a 400RB through these cabs. Perfect for messing around at home as well. And you can put a 4x10 into a Honda Civic!

Those cabinets are absolutely phenomenal. I have a stack of 2 that have been on about 90% of my gigs for the past 10 years, and I’ve run them with everything from the Micro VR head to a real SVT to a GK 800rb (that setup was an absolute cannon- suuuuper punchy) to an Aguilar TH350 (didn’t love this, figured it was too much of a good thing with those warm wooly mids), but lately I’ve liked them best with a Mesa Boogie Walkabout.

I might make dalliances with other amps and cabinets from time to time (lately it’s the tweeter-equipped Walkabout cabinet) but I always find my way back to the sweet punch and tight low end of the Ampeg SVT210AV.

The Walkabout and 2x210av's was my setup for a while. loved the sound. I moved on to 2x112av's since it fit better for my SVT (but still mainly use the Walkabout with them).

How do you like the 400rb into these Ampeg cabs? Or just one cab? Thinking about going this way myself. A single 210 is light weight but I dunno about the 400rv at 8 ohms…

Pretty well, actually. High marks in portability and ease of set up. Not "quite" the same as a single 4x10. But close enough for me. These days weight of a cab is something I think of more and more. (particularly after lugging 1x15's last night.)

Thanks for asking as I'd forgotten about this rig. This picture is making me consider busting these two cabs out again. And leaving my 4x10 where it is.
