I'd try to do that whole side with the binding bit and glue in another piece of wood, maybe add in contrasting stripes for fret markers or something?

Finally revisiting a fretless project

Not a bad idea, but honestly, it's easier to just build a new neck
Feeling a bit better so I got into the shop for a bit today.
I used the time to make some templates for my winter build off project….
also made this, which isn't quite done. It's either a cutting board, or a very small bass body….
(in all seriousness, I kind of want to enlarge it and make a Carl Thompson inspired bar with a pig body and scroll tail 
(a Curl Thompspig bass ???)
I've also been mulling around the idea of using a fretted neck that is partially built for this semi hollow bass in the thread. That'd change the original intent obviously, but it would also get played more once completed than a freestyle would…

well, it would've been more, but Lowe's has the 24" clamps on sale for $15 each (I'm headed to buy more) and the four pack of clamps for $30… pretty good deals for quality "not harbor freight" clamps
Went to another lowes and got another bunch of clamps. I have a lot of clamps apart, but I like these better.

yeah, there's a perfect size clamps for gluing up bodies, and at 15 bucks each, they are a steal

Didn't get any guitar/bass work done over the weekend, but I cleaned up (somewhat) and reorganized the shop. It ain't much, but it's mine and I love it !

I have a metal working shop I'm putting together in my backyard, but would also love to have a woodworking shop, as well. Not enough room for both, unfortunately.

That was one thing I wanted to do… have more open space. I sold my big bandsaw to a friend for cheap, and that opened up some room…plus I can still use it any time. And then putting the planer and compound miter saw on rolling carts, I can move them against the wall or out of the way any time. When I get back from the trip I leave for in the morning, I'm going to get a retractable extension cord that I can put on the ceiling in the center of the room. That way I can run any tools in the center of the room without having power cords on the floor.
It's a little bit of a makeshift shop, but I honestly think about anyone could work here and get what they needed to done. Yeah, I'd love to have a drum sander. A larger capacity planer. A full Central dust collection system. Etc etc. But I'm pretty happy with it in its current state, till I can get those things

I really like your idea of the retractable extension cord on the ceiling! Simple, and gives you so many options!
Tell you what, you're always welcome to come use my metal shop any time you want to.
Those Jorgenson clamps are a lifetime tool investment. I bought about 50 of them back in the early '90's, different lengths. I've used them many thousands of times, and none of them has ever broken or failed. Other cheaper brand clamps have failed.
Store them in a neat rack, keep the glue cleaned off of them, and don't overload them. They'll last longer than you.
