Finger Nail Poll

+1 to bitten off.
Mine tend to chip anyway if I grow em... except my thumbnails. Since those don't get in the way of anything I'll let them grow until they're about the end of my fingertip and then trim.

Besides, I hate the look of dirt under the nails and if there's no nails there's no dirt! Before I ever played bass I tried growing them line a "normal" woman...... ferget it. As soon as I could feel nail touch my palm when writing, off they went. Not to mention I kept injuring myself with em!

Need a real poll......seriously....

That reminds me of my friend Kris, who has kind of creepy long nails. They're not super long, but it still weirds me out sometimes. He's also studying classical guitar because I guess regular electric guitar didn't really have anything else to offer him.

Wow, I'm very opposite of just about everyone on here. I like mine a little past the edge of my finger tips, and for different reasons. Partially because I like to get that pick-like tone if I want to from a finger style position. I also use my fingernails literally as a pick, either on bass or guitar (which is to say, I strum with the back of my finger, as if I'd be holding a pick. It just feels more comfortable and natural for me). I also prefer having longer finger nails because I can actually open things on my own. I also hate HATE the looks of super short fingernails. It just bothers me.

It's also partially because I can't find my nail clippers whenever I decide to cut them.

I used to be like that, but I caught a fingernail on a string one time and nearly ripped it off (I'm still no even sure how it happened).

Now, after lunch at work, I wash my hands really well and bite the nails off. They make great toothpicks, gross as that sounds.....they're super clean though!

I think I can play a little faster with my nails as short as possible. Nothing like the feel you get from playing after a nail trim.

I use my just-past-the-tips nails to get any sound I want out of both guitar and bass. Whoever has nails and can't pluck without getting that click click sound doesn't know how to use their fingers.

Not everyones fingers/nails got same shape, you smartass.

My nails, cut just with abit of white left, end with the finger tip and tips of index and middle fingers on the right hand are flattened from mouse clicking and got somewhat sharp instead of beeing round so theres no way i can get a reasanoble ammount of tention from the string without it beeing hit with the nail. Either have to pluck with a side of the finger like on a double bass or pop. Now tell me Mr. Allknowing how to use such fingers?
