The danish oil is a drying oil. I think it can go over a stain no problem, but I've not done it, so I don't really know. Watco comes in a bunch of different shades though, so you could use one of those or maybe tint it to your liking.

Double Bass fingerboard finish

Drying oil dries over a wash stain just fine although I haven't tried it over a fingerboard dyed black with oil dye. By the way, has anyone tried running a a plane over a phenolic fingerboard? I can't imagine that works too well.

That stuff is a boot black kind of thing. Works well to dye things to a purplish black but you can't put anything over it as it runs back and gets blotchy.

wow. you guys are impressive!! thanx for all the info.. i actually went for a (real) thin coat of epoxy.. put it on and kept wiping it almost like scraping it.. and i'll sand it with some 600grit. my buddy thought i put a new fingerboard on!! lol again thanx you all, for your leads and e.c.t!! <*)))>{
