Double Bass Fingerboard wood

My fingerboard is made of brown heart from Surinam. A bit similar to purple heart in weight and durability. It has lasted for over 15 years now with minimal wear. Just about as much as you’d expect from ebony. Main difference is the surface is less smooth, and the sound in the upper register has a bit more upper mid content.

I could use some advice.
My fingerboard under my right hand thumb where I anchor down is a bit sharp and painful. What can I do take that edge down?

The board is ebony. The bass in a 7/8 Calin Wulter about 18 years old.

There are hundreds of different woods that will work fine for fingerboards. The number one reason they are not used is crusty crusty crusty old bass players that want traditional ebony like they have seen in the past.......!

My "guy" says use some 220 or higher sand paper, make long even strokes on the edge of the board. You would want to put the sandpaper on a block of some kind for evenness and stability.
