Double Bass fingering advice

i guess i could try the whole thing in thumb position too... ill mess with that today

the thumb position only option took some time getting used to, but it seems like that may give me the most up tempo potential. i can use the other fingerings with more shifts for slower stuff. guess i have to practice them all...

Yep, that would be right. Fingerings are context-dependant in a bunch of different ways. And sometimes you end up painted into a corner and having to do heroic things to get out of it...

i just wanted to update this thread. that darn exercise started me on a search for ideas to play that line. maybe im stubborn, but i think that the bass should be able to play any line thrown at us, and this exercise is just the tip of the iceberg. im doing all different triad pairs eventually, not just major / major, and not just a whole step apart. next one is minor/major a half step apart.

anyway, the point is, after searching, ive decided to check out the rabbath left hand thing. so since my last post 7/13 ive been messing with the pivot and crab technique and with these techniques when needed, combined with simandl for most of it, the exercises become much easier. i have alot of work to do!
