Double Bass Finish on a old Kay?

1939 C -1 that will never be in a state of it's old glory but I'm bound to make it a playable instrument once again. I'm am thinking about hitting it with a light dusting of nitrocellulose lacquer especially the top. The finish on the top has oxidized from water damage and years of exposure.

Yay or neah??

The top as I got it.

Cleanup a little
