Would it be possible to use an automotive type paint on a bass? I had some touch up work to do to my car and have some leftover, I was thinking an Ice Blue Metallic SX Jazz would be fun.

What type of prep am I looking at?

Yes, there is prep work to be done which is important. A lot will depend on the condition of your bass's existing finish.
