Finish that will keep the "fresh" wood look

Is there some kind of finish that will retain particularly the "whites" in the wood colour?
After spraying of whatever kind of finishing you'll use the colour will almost always change to a more yellow or gold spectrum. This can be quite beautiful but im working on a bass with a combination of maple, zebrano and wenge and i kinda like it the way it is now with the contrast between the black and white (instead of black and yellow)..

ive stripped a bass recently and used clear walnut oil, not eactlly a hardwearing finnish, but keeps the wood colour

Polyester is the highest oxygen intrusion barrier. You cannot spray it at home. Acrylics would be second on my list.

Yes it is. Not in your house. And the good stuff will exotherm to combustion if you mix it improperly.

The base of the coat is a poor indication of it's strength. There are strong and weak coatings available in both water and organic bases.

Yeah, If you were going to do it, you'd need an oxygen free area, but also a non oxygen spraying method as well, couldn't help you there.....Also, you'd need to ensure that the elements that you'd use do not cause undesired effects

can polyester be mixed with a UV retardent. some woods change colour do to that.

+1 and +1 to Tom and Mike, besides, white is the look of dried out, and is not natural at all, unfortunately, most only see wood products dried, and not in their natural state.

I used a "white" shellac once for french polishing a white pine table for a lady when I was working with my mentor many years ago. Although I've never used polyester, the shellac went on clearer than anything I'd used before or since then for that matter. It didn't darken the wood at all beyond what normally occurs when its wet. And of course the really nice thing about shellac is that it does not amber as it ages.

Definitely not the greatest choice for durability, but its pretty darn clear...

Shellac would wear off of a neck quickly and do nothing to prevent oxidation.

a agree on almost everything about ageing and beauty only in this case i want to try something else.
