I'm sure there's a thread here somewhere but I've not it found it. Im new to forums so don't quite have the protocols down yet. I currently play an Ibanez fretless with ebanol. I'm looking at custom basses and already have a fretted one on order. The luthier has offered to modify an existing fretted bass to narrow the string spacing and turn it into a fretless but he doesn't varnish/lacquer the board.
So I'm curious if I'll get the same mwah on all 5 strings like I do with the Ibanez with just the oiled redwood. I've noticed that the Pentabuz and Zon are finished, but others aren't. I'm not looking for an upright sound either. I like a bit gritty/growlly mwah.
If you can point me to an existing discussion or give me some expert advice I'd appreciate it.
