First Acquisitions of 2010?

Got a Boss Tuner and a double stand for Friday's gig. This might not count, but in the waning days of December SantaWife got me a VERY nice gigbag and a cute book on scales, bunch of books actually. Including Slap It by Tony Oppenheim. I think 2010 will be the year of the GAS as I am seriously needing to upgrade the tiny Line 6 Studio 110. TC Electronic , here I come!!!

Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone. As a straight compressor pedal I think it sounds like crap. Tone killing, attack killing doo doo. And while it has miles of sustain, someone should class action sue Pigtronix for false advertising "virtually no noise" as there's plenty of noise there. No "virtually" about it. ;)

But used before tracking-type effects it's awesome. It's magically correct tons of problems I've had with frequency tracking effects like the synth in the BOSS VF-1, etc. I'm assuming any other compressor pedal would've done the same thing, but I bought this for the super sustain which is also very useful in the same environment. Or maybe it's the attack killing aspect of the Philospher's Tone that's doing it for the tracking. I wish I was smart enough to figure it out. :)

Well, technically I bought it on December 30th but my T.C. Electronic XII B/K Phaser just showed up yesterday. So far I'm really digging it.

I'd check-out the new Keeley Phaser that was just released this week before you decide to keep the T.C. Hopefully, you got it from a retailer with a 30 or 45-day return policy in case you like the Keeley better. The Keeley sounds like it could be pretty amazing.

The T.C. is discontinued and somewhat rare. I may sell it, but I certainly won't be returning it.

And yes, the Keeley sounds amazing and I'll check it out but I've had high hopes for phasers on paper before and been disappointed. That said, I did get a reply from Keeley about using their phaser on bass that I found encouraging.

Mine was a tie, as I received two pedals yesterday.

The first was my Power Wah Boost, which I sent to the Pedal Doctor to have modded. Instead of having the toggle that switched it from a wah to a volume pedal, I had it changed so the wah is always on, and the switch is now true bypass.

The second pedal is is an Earthbound Electronics Supercollider.

First purchase(s) of 2010...

  • Hipshot Bass Xtender (arrived today)
  • Audere Classic 4 Band Preamp (modded to a single pickup config) (hoping it arrives next week)
  • Nordstrand MM4.2 pickup (should arrive tomorrow)

Upgrades for my Schecter DV-4!

Of course now I gotta sell -- anyone interested in a Spector Legend Classic 4? Well, I will have to post in classifieds, but I try to leverage my purchases out with sales. Just to keep myself in check in these financially stunted times. I figure if I have to sell something when I buy something, it'll make me think over my purchase a little harder. Make sure I am getting something I am truly interested in!
