First bass build!

Caught a flu on the weekend, so not much of an update.

The wenges: :)

The center block:

Yeah, it has red birds eye maple veneer in between each layer ;)

There wasn't enough maple for the sides to be one-piece, so they were laminated:

Today I'll go and probably cut the scarf joint, and maybe route the truss rod channel :)

Back from the workshop! Enjoy :)

The stripes between wenge and maple are teak :)

Preparing to do the headstock angle here:

But that I'll leave for tomorrow ;)

Next the "sandwich" is going to get some shaping ;)

Got these monsters today:

Realised the set only has four strings... Gotta buy the fifth separately next time I visit the music store. Now I'm only missing the pups! Tomorrow it's finally time to do the truss rod channel and shaping. The guy who owns the workshop said he made some jigs for the bass, so I'm pretty anxious/scared to see what he's done :D

Get ready for the most random post ever. :hiding:

At this point the bass got to see her future home for the first time. I think she likes it in here :)

Excessive use of tape:

No shaping of the neck yet:

The scarf-jointed piece isn't perfectly aligned, but will be covered with a veneer of some sort.

Some holes drilled:

And that's it for today! Hoping to get into routing the cavities soon.

Nice stuff! I guess you're going to recess the bridge as those Fender style parts are usually 12mm at their minimum height and the fingerboard looks like it's about 7mm thick.
I'd avoid that glue but... too late now ;)

Well, polyuretanic glue isn't the best choice of instrument making... it's not hard enough and maybe it's not strong enough.
I used it for cabs but, even there, the D3 was a better choice.
For the next build you'll can lock the fingerboard in place with nails that run thru holes made in the fret slots, so you don't have to cover them. ;)

I'll have to use some other glue on the next build then :) The nails that kept the fingerboard aligned were outside the final outline of the board, so the holes aren't on the final board :smug: Thanks for the info!
