first bass help....please :)

ok so im looking to get my first bass. im not really interested in getting a squire bass or anything of that shape, i just dont like them. so im looking into an Epiphone EB-0, and i just want to know peoples opinions on them.
im a little worried about the short scale and not having a bridge pickup.

I didn't care for Fenders either and had a Gibson EB-3, but....the Fender had the sound I wanted. So i learned to play a "longer scale" Precision and have never regretted it. That was over 40 years ago. I think you'll find the EB-0 a bit muddy. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

I have a Gibson EB-0 from 1960. I find it a rather cheap sounding bass with only one sound. The short scale isn't so bad, but the lack of a bridge pickup is a big problem.

Look, if you really like the EB-0, then go for it. But I feel obliged to recommend that you find a standard-scale Jazz Bass knockoff; it's kinda like learning to drive a stick shift; you may never need it, but it's a confidence-builder to know you can handle it if the situation requires. Also, the short-scale bass universe is far smaller than the standard scale. You don't want to limit your options, now do you?

Try the Thunderbird bass if you don't like Fenders. It's got a nice neck and good spacing for beginners. 400$ though, might be a bit pricey.

1st bass was in 1965, a P-bass clone featuring a baseball-bat-sized neck.

Nowadays you can get 2 or more for that price thanks to folks like Rondo:
