First Build, any tips tricks etc?????

The bass is finished, i used about 10 coats of aerosol spray lacquer for the finish.

it is a little neck heavy but not to bad, maybe ill add a weight in the back cavity.

All thats left to do is to cover the cavity in the back. im looking for a case for it but i cant seem to find one that it would fit in because of its odd shape. its 12 1/2 inches wide and 51-52 inches long. any suggestions.

I love how this went from some bored kid talking nonsense to real project finished and delivered.

I am sure your dad enjoyed doing something with you, it's not always easy to connect with your teenage kid.

The routing job is actually really good and the end result is pretty nice.

Building a body for an existing neck is my next step, after "building" my eBay cheapo kit.

exactly how long did that take, from body blank, to finished bass, like 2 weeks? really like the shape. sorta like a heavily moded ibanez model. so cut the body out on a bandsaw, sand it to shape, go over the edges with a roundover bit and no further contouring, rout the neck pocket, drill the bridge, roue for the p pup, drill for pots, and move control cavity. if you really went at it, and had the templates ahead of time, you could get to the finish stages in one or 2 days if you had the right tools. thats just me, but i usually stay in the shop until i am forced out by need of food, or by freinds/family. just crank up the radio, have a few bottles of something to drink, and a few empty bottles for obvious reasons, and just find the instrument inside the wood.

Haha thanks nick. My dad did do a really great job routing the only spots thts not perfect is around the pups but hey u can only see it if ur really pickey. If and when you decide to make your own bass have all the hardware together nd have your cheapo kit bass handy as a reference for bridge distance, neck pocket depth etc....

yeah it did take about two weeks or so of phisical work with the wood and power tools. My dad and i did a little every night so i got done fast. instead of using a router bit i actually just sanded the edges with 60 grit to get the edge off of them the hit it with 220(some process on the back for a little bit of a body contour). reason for this was tht i felt it was safer than clamping the body and freehanding it with the router and possibly screwing it up really bad. im in the process of uploading a video to youtube for those of you who wanted to hear how it sounds.(need a better amp than this tiny 22.5w fender practice amp i got when i tried to learn guitar a year ago. any suggestions on amps????) last night i got a cavity cover made for the back.
