First Build - "Lucifer"

I’ve gotten pretty OCD myself around tablesaws since my brother lost partial use of his thumb due to a cut tendon. He was just plain lucky he didn’t lose the whole thumb. I’ve dropped a router before which was…… exciting. I always “rehearse” a move before I do it, which won’t save me from a kickback, but I think it helps. Wish I had the spare coin for a Sawstop….
My wife has the attitude that if I can't afford a Sawstop, I can't afford a table saw. I tend to agree with her.
We'll see what happens once the new house is build and I have a place for a wood shop. You will all have an open invitation to stop by!

So yeah, this arrived today -

When @RichterScale heard I was just gonna make a black plastic cover, he said "Not on my watch you aren't!" :roflmao: So he sent me this wenge to make a rear control cover out of. Many thanks Ron, this is gonna work perfect.

Hopefully I'll get back to the build in a couple weeks. Next weeks is vacation and we are scrambling to get ready.

Ooooh... that's some sweet wenge!

I considered using these for a long time -

They look like better quality and they have a much better intonation adjustment. but at the end of the day, I wasn't sure how to go about calculating the placement of the recess needed for the string-thru part that sticks down off the bottom, especially on a multi-scale. Plus, I knew that I would need to recess the entire saddles into the face, so that meant calculating a recess within a recess, and I just wasn't confident enough to pull that off on my first build. I had already created enough of a struggle for myself, why add to it at that point?

I am using them on my EUB build. They seem decent, I had to get 2 sets to get 5 without finish flaws.

Okay, so for those who didn't get to read about how my weekend started out, I'll just point you to here...
What's On Your Workbench?
:meh:

With that episode behind us, sort of, we decided to just act like nothing happened since there was literally nothing we could do about it at the moment anyways. So we tried to go about our planned weekend as normal. My wife had just gotten her second COVID shot, so she spent much of the following day (Saturday) sleeping in the RV, buried in blankets, sweating profusely. Yup, that second shot messed her up pretty good. Kitty cuddled with her a lot, both of them not feeling too well. I left them alone.

Let's Get Back To Work!
Upon getting all my stuff laid out in the woodshop, I noticed that I had basically forgotten half of everything. :meh: I had planned on routing the rear control cavity cover and shaping the cover itself after @RichterScale had sent me those wenge sheets to make the cover out of. So I went ahead and marked one of the sheets and started shaping it. So, simple process (I think, if I'm doing this right). Lay the template I made on the sheet, mark it out -

I tried to use chalk since it's wenge and pencil is hard to see, but the chalk doesn't mark very tight to the edge. So I gave up and went back to pencil. :meh: Then cut it out on the bandsaw, use the belt sander to shape a bit -

I stopped short of my line, because I wanted to get the body routed and then final shape this to fit that routing. That seemed like the proper way to do this. That's when I realized I had forgotten my CA glue, so I could not do "the trick" to affix my routing template to the body. Yeah...... :meh:

So I guess we're done with this one for the weekend. Great job Tim!
Anyways, I can do all of this at home, there was no real reason to go to the woodshop, other than it's out in the country where we have no cell service and my wife wanted to "get away". I'll regroup at home once I get everything else taken care of.

Sometimes when I need a precise line to cut to on darker wood...I'll use an Xacto scalpel instead of a pencil. ... then rub chalk into the scratch.
