I don't like the look of basses when the horn areas stick out further/wider than the bridge section of the body. Proportions aren't right IMO. The original designs seems like it will work better.
Yeah, you're all right. I don't know what I was thinking. I drew out the hip contour to match the width of the horns, thinking it would make it balanced. Sure, the body itself would be wonderfully balanced but I wasn't thinking about the neck I'd be throwing on it! As it is now, it's only 12" wide. Upping the hips to 13-14" should help a bit. I'll have plenty of wood available with 6" of mahogany on either side of 4" of maple. Heck, I might even throw in a stripe of padouk in between for flavor.
