First head/cab purchase

I have been playing bass for about 3 years and always played on a combo with PA support. I want to spend under 1k on a decent head and cab. I know this is all subjective but this is totally new terrain for me.

I saw the new TC BQ250 & BQ500 (not interested in the toneprint option as i use pedals so that eliminates the BH line). I like the simplicity of the BQ's and the better portability.

What I really need to know is what cab to pair a head to and how many watts. If i get a 600 watt 4x10 would that work well with a 250 watt amp?

Open to suggestions - yes, I have read tons of threads.

That combo will work but you may find it isn't enough amp power for a loudish band. Id shoot for a 500 watt amp. Lots of good used stuff in our classifieds here. Welcome!

I like to suggest at first to put the bulk of the budget towards the cabinet. I wish id have been told that simple slice of advice before I started buying component rigs.

Just remember that the heavier stuff that was yesterday's news, still sounds just as good now as it did back then. Lots of good deals to be found. Everyone (mostly) wants the latest and greatest in featherweight basses, heads, cabs, etc. and they all cost a small fortune.

I was looking more toward the 500 watt TC. Is it true that if you have 500 watts of amp you should have double that for your cab. So a 1000 watt cab?

Good advice. The best amp in the world sounds like ass through a crap cab. Many good used 410's out there for cheap.
