First Impression / Review My New Avatar B410 NEO

not saying i know how to calculate it, but isn't surface area different? as in, you don't just add the speaker diameters.

There probably is a formula to actually figure it out but I'm no cab designer. I was just going by basics and how my ear perceives the sound. A 210 always sounds bigger to me than a single 15, and a 410 seems bigger to me than a double 15 cab. Two 15's sound better to me than a single 18.

Does that make sense?

megadan: To me the 610HLF is a 'Pro' cabinet while the Avatars were excellent for budget, but not quite there.

The 610HLF is a tremendous cab and my favorite from Ampeg. If I could move one, I'd own one. I can see where the Avatar's would pale in comparison against a 610HLF.

I'm going to do an A/B with my 410HLF sometime soon and post up the results. I want to wait till the speakers in the Avatar get broken in so I can get a better idea of how they pair up. It should be interesting.

I love the look of that cab. Good deal too. I was very close to getting Avatars when I chose Dr. Bass, but the Avatars are real nice and I would choose that one over the Ampeg HLF in a heartbeat.

Right. We can skip the pi since it's a common factor, and if we ignore the fact that it's a cone etc, we get:

1x10: 100
1x12: 144
2x10: 200
1x15: 225
2x12: 288
4x10: 400
2x15: 450
6x10: 600
8x10: 800

These are approximations, and area alone definitely doesn't tell the whole story, but it does tell you something.

Nope. Since it's *radius* squared, it would be:

1x10: 25
1x12: 36
2x10: 50
1x15: 56.25
etc.
