First Post: Wizzy 12 or Schroeder 15 with Ampeg PF-50T?

Hi All,

I’ve been lurking here for many years and pretty much always find the info I need by searching and following along, so thank you for that! I do have a specific question today…

I have an Ampeg PF-50T coming in May (I hope) and need advice on a cab. I’ve been looking at high efficiency options to squeeze as much as I can out of the 50 watts of tube power. I’m considering a Wizzy 12 and a Schroeder 15 which are both around $500 used.

I primarily record. When I do play out, it’s smallish blues clubs with no PA support. I play a P and J bass, both passive, 90% fingerstyle, more often the P with flats and foam shoved under the bridge cover. I love Jamerson, Duck Dunn, etc…but not necessarily married to any vintage sound. I gigged years ago with an Eden head/4x10 half stack but not since 2006 or so.

My home setup for recording has been the DI on a 1084 preamp and I’m adding a SushiBox Finally DI, but I’m excited to try the PF-50T and have an amp for home jam sessions and the occasional gig.

The Wizzy and Schroeder feature 103-104db sensitivity and smallish form factor but I haven’t heard either. I’d appreciate any input.

I haven't found a cab the PF 50 T doesn't sound good thru . If you are using for studio and pub gigs only the Ampeg PF112 is a perfect match . Something to take into consideration , EA is no longer doing business . Wizzy parts will be hard to get . Great cab though .
Take a look at Genzler Bass arrays also . Tube amps sound amazing thru them .

Thank you for coming back to recommend the Genzler array. I did a little research and it looks like the business.

I just bought a demo BA12-3 for $725 and I’m really excited to try it when the PF50T arrives.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with my Schroeder 1210. No internal bracing, very little sound deadening, ~10 lbs. over listed weight if I recall, poor wiring/crossover, repeated tweeter issues, and the speakers promised were not in the enclosure when I received it. Sold it after it likely caused my amp to go dip below 4 ohms and into protect mode. The outside rhino tough is also not great to handle. It sounded like a cannon when it worked and was light though.
