First rock recording with with electric bass

I searched and didn’t see this question here in TB. It came up in a discussion. I was saying ‘You’re So Square” was played by Elvis. That song and Bill Black on JailHouse Rock we’re one of the first rock songs using electric bass.
I know Monk Montgomery played the first recording with Lionel Hampton but that was jazz. I know Rocket 88 is considered by many to be the first rock song. However, unless there’s upright buried in the mix, I hear no bass. I do hear guitar playing a bass line distorted because of through an amp with a broken speaker

That is the challenge of listening to bass on those early records, and trying to identify the individual parts or instrument. Plus bass was not mixed very high in those old recordings to keep the needles from skipping or causing the playback equipment from being overdriven with unwanted distortion. That development came much later with multi channel mixers and multi track recording methods and improvement in playback equipment.
Having a guitar, piano, organ or bari sax or tuba double significant parts also comes later as do six string or tic tack guitar.

Yeah, no bass on “88”, just that guitar, in spite of any promo pics of the band that you might see. The honor may go to Olsie Robinson with Little Richard’s band…
