I was asked to play a session with a band I've never heard, but whose members I admire musically. I took the call. Yeah, you'll be playing all upright. I play upright on a few tunes live, but it's not my strength.
Last night. Pre-production meeting, and a short rehearsal to get the feel of how the session will sound. Darn. BL was right. The upright is the right tool for the job.
I will still bring- A fretless Jazz, and a vintage fretted P. Sometimes the producer has different ideas than the band leader, so best to be prepared.
I haven't been in a studio for about 8 years, and this is a good one, so I'm really looking forward to it.
The BL described the music to me as 70's vintage pop, think Seals and Crofts. I heard a lot of Gordon Lightfoot groove. All that matters- the songs are good.
