First time w/ Aero single coils...

I just got a 2005 Lakland DJ 5 and had the same experience as you. I put mine up against a first run Geddy Lee Fender Jazz, and this thing sounded oh so much more legit. I LOVE the Aero's, and have no idea why they seem to lose to the Nordy's so often. These pickups are great, and handle a low B better than any passive J-bass pickup I've used yet. And I've tried them all.

... and I finally did. :bassist:

Before this, I had DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, Antiquity II and Nordstrand NJ4s in my Nash J-bass. They're all great - each does certain things extremely well.

But now with the Aeros, I feel like my search is over. I wanted a neck pickup I could rock soloed all night long and I finally got that. I get all the tonal variation I want with my fingers (and the tone knob to a lesser extent). There's a certain purity with these that really floors me. The J-bass is finally toe-to-toe with the Musicmaster when I compare the two on the gig.

The Type 1 J's don't seem quite as sharp with their attack as the Musicmaster pickup. I guess that's to be expected with dual vs. single poles. (I so want to try the single-pole Type 4A eventually.)

I don't know - nothing's for everyone. But I for one am really feeling these Aeros.
