There can't be anyone here that's more ashamed about their first song then me...
It was...
ouch.
It was "No fronts", from Dog Eat Dog. Damn, what was I thinking.

Second song was Land Of Sunshine, from Faith No More, which I'm more proud of...not the way I played that song back then.

First song I was proud on, was Teen Town from Jaco, but I still can't play it properly, so I was just bragging back then.

I played it all on the E string

first song I felt proud of learning- "Cult Of Personality" by Living Colour. (I had progressed to using the other strings as well by then)

Chick Magnet by MxPx. Even though it's really easy, it sounds cool and was one of the first songs I learned.

Boy, that's rough. It changes with each decade. I'd say the first (put me in the Chris Squire bunch) was "Gates of Delirium". After that, it depends on what it is I'm trying to do. Some of my original lines from my pro days still sit well with me, and that gives me a sense that I have a clue. Just last year, I learned "Moondance", and it has the weirdest intervals in it, but I pulled it off. Otherwise, it's moments - like being 18, and auditioning for a fusion band (me being a metalhead) that had only a violin and drums. For that, I pulled out my best John Wetton. Didn't get the gig, but I survived, and they complimented me. Last year, it was working a full-blown horn band with a very heavy, jazzy guitarist. Again, I was right there when I needed to be.

my first tune was Orion by Metallica, It sounds cool, and I was so blown away that I could play it. I played it for like an hour, just amazed that I was playing a cool song like that. HEY! It was the first song I learned! Get that smirk off yer face...Then came Smells Like Teen Spirit, that was a heck of a lot easier than Orion, let me tell you.

the first one that made me feel like a bass player was Porno Creep by Korn. c'mon, thats a kewl groove.

First song I ever figured out on the bass was "Minute of Decay" by Marilyn Manson. I know it is not a hard song, but still, it was an accomplishment. I just recently figured out "Zero" by Smashing Pumpkins, great song.

The first song that made me feel cool was Metallica's "Enter Sandman". The song that EVERYBODY knows. I especially liked that cool little slide part in the bridge. Just a fun song to play. I've moved on, though...Greatest achievments:

"Rooster"--Alice In Chains
"Smells Like Teen Spirit"--Nirvana (Not that it's hard, but I leard to play it the first day that I started playing!) I have a whole book of songs that I've figured out and a whole binder of tablature of songs that I can play, but that I can't claim to have figured out.

This may not be my first tune, but it's one of the greatest rock song in the world to me (if not The Greatest). I learned it in its entirety. The only problem is to play the two bar solo cleanly. I guess the tone has much to do on it.

About 6 months after I got my first bass, I learned money and played it in my 8th grade talent show with some friends. I thought I was the best bassist in the world when I learned that tune. Now that I look back I played nearly all the parts during solo part wrong, but it was still great none the less.

Mine would have to be, soul to sqeeze by the red hot chili peppers, i guess now that i look at it, it isn't a real hard song but it was back then and i thought i was god!! (but i'm not)

how do you play the chorus part for zero?
i can play the first part but i just cant figure the other riff out.

The first song for me was also Chick Magnet. Me and my g****r player friend still play it all the time for fun. We even try out singing every once in a while...HAHAHA!!

That's not fair! The closest I've come is only Wicked Game by Chris Isaak....but then again I'm not sure I'd call myself a bassist quite yet either!

First song I learnt to play all the way through that was already tabbed was "Polly" by Nirvana. OK so it's not tough, but there's still a feeling of achievment when you do it for the first time.
