First upgrade...what to do?

I'm resurrecting this thread to update my situation:
Turns out the neck was too warped, so I sold the body+parts on ebay for some $, and I've been selling numerous other things on ebay since the beginning of the year.
I now have about $260ish to work with, so what would you say is my bet for something easy to play/learn on/enjoy for around(maybe a few bucks more/less) than what I am working with? (I made an offer to someone for a deluxe active squier jazz, but it's not a closed deal yet.)
Thanks in advance.

you should be able to find an OLP MM in the classified here, they are good basses for the price, also you might find a active Fender jazz (mim) around that price. I had one and it played great The more recent mim's are pretty good since they installed new machines in the Encinada plant
